About

The Origin of the Whimsical Forest

I have always loved the outdoors and experiencing camp. I grew up going to YMCA Camp Miller every summer, and I worked there for three summers as a counselor and on the director staff. Our kids now go to the residential summer camp and we still attend the family camp session as Camp Miller holds dear to my heart.

When asked what my dream job was, I always said, "I'd love to be a camp director, but there's so few camps, and SO many people who want to be directors, I don't know if I'd be picked/hired." As I grew up and became and adult, I tried many other career fields and none of them felt right.

In the fall of 2024, my husband, Cody, and I bought our home on the edge of Cloquet. I knew whatever endeavor I started, I wanted to do it at our property.  I’ve been reflecting on how I can use my education, skills, and passions to give back to the community in a meaningful way. As I brainstormed about what might be missing in the Cloquet area, one need became clear—we don’t have consistent, year-round environmental education programming. For families who want that kind of experience for their children, it usually means traveling 20+ miles away. I saw an opportunity to change that.

While our property is just about 1.5 acres, we’ve been thoughtfully making changes and enhancements to transform it into a magical forest space—ready to welcome campers starting summer 2025! As we move forward, my vision is to also create a unique indoor space, ideally a yurt, that will allow us to offer year-round classes for children and families including day camp programs during school breaks and the exploration of healing with Sound Bowls and Somatic Dance Healing classes.

When in full bloom, you will discover the enchanting charm of our natural fence, where trees and brush create a picturesque boundary that feels like you have entered
